Your role and responsibilities as a mentee
As a mentee, you are responsible for organising and preparing the content of your mentoring sessions.
Your responsibilities as a mentee:
✅Take the initiative: You contact your mentor, arrange appointments and determine the topics for your discussions so that your mentor can focus fully on your concerns.
✅Be well prepared: You prepare for your meetings and continue to work independently on your career goals between appointments.
✅Regular communication: Maintain contact with your mentor. If you do not receive any feedback after two weeks, please inform the alma mentoring team.
✅Reliability: If you wish to end the mentoring programme early, please notify the alma mentoring team: alma@univie.ac.at➡️Your mentoring, your decision: Mentors offer you their support in decision-making, but you always make your own decisions. This also means that you remain independent in a mentorship and take responsibility for your own progress.
Principles of mentoring
➡️It pays to stick with it: Mentoring is particularly effective when there is a long-term exchange, as this allows enough space for building trust, getting to know each other and developing your ideas. So stay on the ball!
➡️Mentoring is a working relationship – not therapy: Your mentor accompanies you professionally, but mentoring is not intended to be psychological therapy.
➡️No career guarantee: Your mentor will support you with their own experience and help you on your way to achieving your goals – but ultimately, your success is in your own hands.
➡️Mentoring is not expert advice: Mentoring is not a form of counselling in which experts impart specialist knowledge. Your mentor shares personal experiences that can serve as guidance for you.
Participation requirements:
To participate in the alma mentoring programme, you must be enrolled at the University of Vienna or have already completed a degree here.
